Hollywood has bastardized My Sassy Girl.

if, like me, you were hoping that the Hollywood remake of My Sassy Girl would bring back the giddy, and wonderfully warm, sarcastic moments of the Korean original... think again.

this remake is wrong in so many aspects i don't even know where to begin. the actors were blah (although i did like the girl's haircut and cool clothes LOL) and didn't have chemistry, the cinematography and scoring is cookie-cutter, and the story wasn't very endearing. if i didn't watch the Korean version, i wouldn't have understood why on earth this crazy woman was lovable. heck, i didn't even think the guy was funny, clumsy, and kenkoy enough to pull off the dynamics of the original version.

a more detailed review is found here.

disappointment rate is as big as an extra large bucket of extra buttered popcorn, plus an extra large soda. good thing the rental was free because of the points we had accumulated on Roger's Video Rewards.

Il Mare was a better remake.

ring around the roses, a pocket full of posies

this morning's headline shouted "Financial meltdown rocks Wall Street"

Wall Street spun into crisis mode this morning as Lehman Bros. (LEH, news, msgs) filed for bankruptcy, worries grew about the future of American International Group (AIG, news, msgs) markets around the world tumbled.

Shares of Lehman plunged $3.48, or 95.3%, to 17 cents per share. AIG shares slumped $8.09, or 66.6%, to $4.05 this afternoon.

News of Lehman's demise sent stocks plunging by midday.

At 12:20 p.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 251 points to 11,171, weighed down by AIG and Bank of America (BAC, news, msgs). The Nasdaq Composite Index had shed 30 points to 2,232, and the Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 24 points to 1,228.

last week the company i currently work also laid off a lot of people (although they didn't file for bankruptcy), myself included. it's a crappy, crappy time.

ugh.

goodbye to summer

vancouverites must be lucky this year - it's still warm, and it's already September!

since it was presumably one of the last weekends of the fleeting summer, we spent the afternoon at spanish banks where the kids sand-bathed and ran around like crazy. it was pure joy to watch them run, jump, dance, and roll around in the sand. they truly put a new meaning into "dance like no one is watching". it was nice to just sit, watch, and listen to the afternoon pass by - if you're a working mom, you'll know how rarely that happens.

oh to be a child and have no care in the world except when your tummy grumbles.

UP Naming Mahal

after all those early monday mornings in the UP campus when everyone had to stop whatever they were doing when the national anthem and UP song played, i never really memorized UP Naming Mahal.

now i get the i-love-my-school loyalty... after 10 years away from the UP campus. LOL.
