US election fashion

raise your hand if you haven't heard that the Republicans spent $100k on Sarah Palin's makeover.

i think she needed all the help she could get.

but Cindy McCain.. i don't know. spending $300,000 on one night only sounds a bit absurd, especially during a US recession.

according to Vanity Fair:

Laura Bush
Oscar de la Renta suit: $2,500
Stuart Weitzman heels: $325
Pearl stud earrings: $600–$1,500
Total: Between $3,425 and $4,325

Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100

when times are tough, the innate stylish ones always win. Michelle Obama doesn't need to spend tax dollars on beautiful clothes. she may be in an H&M dress but she looks every inch like a First Lady.

meltdown mondays

monday mornings are dreadful in our household. the adults have to get back to the working week rhythm, and the little one needs reminding that she has school and has to get out of her comfy pajamas.

usually there is kicking and screaming, and sometimes even a little bribing to get her dressed and out the door. more often than not, we are all late since it takes more than 20 minutes to get her dressed.

i feel exactly the same way. if i weren't the adult, i'd be kicking and screaming too.

for the past 2 mondays, amori has gone to school clutching her pajamas and blanket, and in mis-matched clothes. plus sandals instead of shoes even if it's 10 degrees outside.

well at least she's got clothes on.

ah mondays.

stuffed

canadian thanksgiving weekend was b-u-s-y. for the first time in years, we had lots of friends and family to visit - so we're not complaining!

sunday lunch was at our place - aldo prepared fish wrapped in bacon and dressed with lemon mayonnaise + whiskey bread pudding (thank you Gordon Ramsey!).

a few hours later, we were off to a friend's house for traditional turkey dinner.

monday lunch was at my in-laws - chicken relleno, gravy, mashed potatoes, and apple crostata (thank you ina garten, barefoot contessa).

dinner then followed at another friend's house, this time it was chicken curry and pumpkin pie.

that night, when i was putting amori to bed, she yawned and said "i'm so tired!".

happy canadian thanksgiving!
